If life were lived by just realistic means, then Dreamers would never Dream,  Rebels would never Rebel, and Lovers would never Love.

A true artists talents lie not only in the ability to capture essence, but to convey it through their medium. Dave Genchi is a true artist. Whether it be photography or videography, his medium is the lens.

As a photographer/videographer for the Steamboat Powdercats, a crew of backcountry ski guides, Dave’s passion for his work and artistry are displayed through images such as the one that can be seen gracing the cover of the 2006 issue of Steamboat Magazine.

On December 21, 2006, Dave and the rest of the Powdercat guides started the day like any other deep in the back woods of Steamboat Colorado. In the blink of an eye it quickly turned into a day that would be unlike any other. While snowboarding on Buffalo Pass, Dave took a fall that resulted in a broken neck. The quick response of his friends and crew members not only got him out of the backcountry, it saved his life. Dave was life flighted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, CO where he underwent surgery for stabilization. While there, he was told very little in terms of what to expect for recovery. Later, he was transported to Craig Rehab where adaptive therapy would teach him to live his new life in a wheelchair. After months of rehab and numerous setbacks, however, Dave fought his way here to Project Walk.

Since being here, Dave has already seen drastic improvements. Given his incredible work ethic and infectious positive attitude toward recovery, we know Dave’s success thus far is just the tip of the iceberg. We look forward to being a part of helping him regain the independence he once knew so he can return to being the artist he truly is.
